Hey you guys this is looking fantastic. Haven't checked in in a while and since I was last here you've made so much improvement and the reason is clearly that such talented people have been working so hard on it. I think the things that stuck out to me when I first saw this were the boxy island edges and the x-bow sound being a little hard on the ears - both of which are no longer an issue. Everything looks and sounds flippin fantastic and it seems like you've not much more to go before you can release a beta. Congratulations to all of you on your accomplishments so far and keep up the good work! To infinity, and beyond!!
Duhprey@ as for the GUI, dont worry about adding it in as I plan on adjusting it. The only GUI that can be added in would be the mouse cursors, the command rings (some arent working properly in game) and command ring effect when the mouse hovers of the button and the new ingame menus for exiting rs. Oh, the Altar menus could be added but we dont have a leveling system or all the units in yet so no point just yet Dont add the volume menus, spell knowledge, tech knowledge menu, etc as Im gonna remake them for widescreen.
When I say maintaining the software, I mean more like managing the website here... deleting spam or activating users... that kind of thing. Not sure about the details really until its done
Duhprey I have no problems hosting and Needa has been able to connect to me no problems its only the last alpha release that I started having problems with people connecting, and I think that was because of ISP problems with speed issues and connections timing out..
As we players will have their info stored on the server - for the leveling system - we need to make sure players sign up to the server with passwords and stuff. Naturally we dont have all the units and spells in game so the leveling up system would be inactive but we could still have the membership started up for preparation in the long term.
Japan has fantastic internet speed so I could maintain the software - though I am not entirely sure wat that means More details plz
Currently almost anyone can host... except for ip blocked people.
We have an amazon server which is handling the service interchange (when you host everyone sees it and can connect) so that could have some problems, but most will be handled by amazon.
Currently many other functions are managed by dreamhost. In a similar way all the hardware related problems are magically fixed.
By the end, ill move everything over to the amazon server. At some point we will need someone to maintain the software, but for now its me.
me had speech with NSWorld, he know much about servers,in his opinion main NS problem is using 2 ports for serving and ppl who has a NAT-type internet connection can not host ( only join) and some other reasons like port block by isp etc.So we have what we have :9 of 10 humans can not host/start a game.
However I can host a games that use a 1 port for serving( hedgewars, wesnoth)and it seems what everyone can.I never heard there <<I can't host"
duhprey@ Not sure what you mean. Are you talking about an admin who will manage the server and keep it problem free? Or like a player admin who goes into the game and watches for naughty people? I dont really know much about servers so more info the better for me to understand as to what you are asking
I estimate about 1000 hours of code related development left. That's to a functional multiplayer/singleplayer skirmish and campaign editor. The campaign may be further out from that. Given my work pattern (2000 hours over the last two years) on this that's about another year. But I have help so id call that a maximum.
